In the Latino Art Museum my eye was caught on a 1974 photo by Luis Garza titled “Raza Gothic.” I found it a bit amusing that this painting took on a Spanish twist to the painting “American Gothic” by Grant Wood from 1930. In fact, I enjoyed all of Luis Garza photos; I felt like I had the exclusive opportunity to see and travel back in time to the 1970s and get a glimpse of what culture was like and what issues people faced. I was most amazed by the attire used then and how different people’s features were then; it is apparent how much we have changed within 40 years of multicultural mixing.
